You are excited and are the proud owner of a pet – but Whoops!

We buy our pet all sorts of things we think they will need.  Our joy is boundless and we receive much from owning and the return of their unconditional love.  Our furry friends, greet us at the door after a day at work.  For those that work at a home business, having that constant companion around is comforting.

We become acclimated to the smells, whether is it a clean, musky or pet odor.  We often miss the smells until they become pronounced or someone says something.

We clean, disinfect and assume that all is well.  Ask any guest and most often they will tell you about the fur on the furniture, cat or dog odor, and say “This is bad for my allergies”.

For those that don’t know, our beloved pet’s body secret oil and a waxy substance that has an odor. Often the odor is very pronounced, along with shedding on the beds and furniture.

Pet owners know that our furry friends have accidents due to old age, getting nervous, excited or frightened by loud noises.  We come home and “BAM”, we smell the foul odor, or we find surprises in the course of regular cleaning.  We love our special friends, but our carpets, bed or floors can become permeated with the odor and the smell can be overwhelming.

Here is the “usual” way clean up the mess:

  • disinfect the area
  • use paper towels to absorb the excess urine
  • follow by time-tested baking soda and more paper towels
  • finish with a mixture of water and white vinegar with paper towels left overnight
  • weigh down with something heavy to bring the urine up from the carpet and pad
  • This is good but all to often the odor lingers especially if there are multiple urine episodes.
